"Roitburd, Dante and Zhadan"

We invite you to the event "Roitburd, Dante and Zhadan" as a part of the public program for the exhibition of the Research Platform of the PinchukArtСentre “Oleksandr Roitburd. Power Theory”.

The event will take place on Thursday, March 28 at 18:00 in the exhibition space on the 2nd floor of the PinchukArtCentre.

Dante Alighieri's "The Divine Comedy" was recently published in 3 volumes with parallel Ukrainian and Italian text with illustrations by Oleksandr Roitburd (Folio publishing house). During his lifetime, the artist managed to offer a significant part of the works for this edition.
In such projects, Roitburd does not turn to the literal illustration of the story but looks for images that would resonate with the work in terms of feelings. In particular, he used this approach when in 2016 he made illustrations for Zhadan's collection of poems "Templars". In addition, the artists had the opportunity to collaborate in other roles - Roitburd's collection "Poems of the Dilettante", which was published in 2021, as illustrated by the writer and friend of the artist Serhiy Zhadan.

We propose to talk about these – partly intertemporal – dialogues between artists during the event "Roitburd, Dante and Zhadan". Oleksandr Krasovytskyy and Serhiy Zhadan present Dante Alighieri's "The Divine Comedy" with illustrations by Oleksandr Roitburd.
The writer will also share his memories of Oleksandr, talk about their creative collaboration, and read excerpts from Dante, his poems, and Roitburd's texts.

Serhiy Zhadan is a writer, musician, and public figure.

Oleksandr Krasovytskyy is a Ukrainian publisher and general director of the Folio publishing house.

The event will be moderated by Kostiantyn Doroshenko, curator of the exhibition “Oleksandr Roitburd. Power Theory”, an affiliated expert of the Research Platform of the PinchukArtCentre.
