Presentation of the Anthology Reсlaiming history. Decoloniality and Art in Ukraine after 1991

On Wednesday, 28 May at 18:30, we invite you to the presentation of the anthology Reсlaiming history. Decoloniality and Art in Ukraine after 1991, which is the result of two years of work by the Research Platform of the PinchukArtCentre.
The presentation will take place on the 5th floor of the PinchukArtCentre in Kateryna Aliinyk’s space.

As part of the anthology presentation, members of the Research Platform of the PinchukArtCentre will discuss the pre-colonial focus of their research and the application of a decolonial approach to analysing contemporary Ukrainian art, primarily from the period of Ukraine’s independence. On the one hand, the researchers challenge Western representations and perceptions of art from Ukraine; on the other, they explore how we ourselves see, identify, and reclaim our own local histories.
The publication will include texts by the editor and compiler of the anthology, invited curator of the Research Platform Kateryna Botanova, researchers Yevheniia Butsykina and Milena Khomchenko, as well as scholars Svitlana Biedarieva, Adrian Ivakhiv, and Madina Tlostanova. The book is scheduled for publication in May 2025.
The event will be moderated by Daria Shevtsova, curator of the PinchukArtCentre.

Kateryna Botanova — Ukrainian curator and cultural critic, affiliated curator of the Research Platform, and editor/compiler of Reсlaiming history. Decoloniality and Art in Ukraine after 1991.
