As part of Lesia Khomenko’s solo exhibition at the PinchukArtCentre, a large-scale new commission at Kyiv-Pasazhyrskyi Central Station will be inaugurated at the end of August.
Using the wonderful room “Red hall” of the Central Railway Station (second floor) as a studio from mid-July to mid-August, Khomenko will create her largest paintings to date, at 21x12m.
The monumental painting will be installed in the central arrival Hall of the Central Railway Station, covering the vast window facing the staircase leading to the tracks. The work mirrors the ascending staircase from the station’s existing architecture. Suggesting an “endless” staircase is filled with figures, representing a wide spectrum of Ukrainian society. The work symbolises a moving forward, supported and made possible by all Ukrainians, collectively working to defend the nation, its way of life, its culture and its democratic values.
Commissioned by the PinchukArtCentre in collaboration with Ukrainian Railways, the artwork continues a strategic partnership focused on introducing contemporary art at the railways. Earlier in 2025, this collaboration also resulted in the presentation of the video installation Arrival by Yarema Malashchuk and Roman Khimei, as well as the sculpture Volya by Oleksiy Sai.
For her exhibition at the PinchukArtCentre, Lesia Khomenko will also use her studio at the railways to create a new 30–metre–long painting shaped like a trench, presented as an immersive installation. The exhibition, opening on 28 August, will feature Khomenko’s works from 2006 to today, offering a curated view of her artistic trajectory.
