We invite you to explore the themes of the Future Generation Art Prize 2024 exhibition, to understand what issues they address and the context in which key international discussions take place. Continuing the theme of rethinking local histories, we will focus on the connection between decolonization and art.
During the lecture by Yevheniia Butsykina: ● We will consider three modes of interaction between decolonial discourse and struggle, on the one hand, and contemporary art, on the other: decolonization of the museum, rethinking of art history, and subversion/breaking of exhibition practice.● Let's turn to specific examples of visualizations and research processes of decolonization with the help and through art.● We will look at examples of artistic experiments and interventions in contemporary art and technology that were carried out to break the silence around modern institutions and provoke acts of resistance. ● We will pay special attention to the geopolitical and cultural peculiarities of Ukraine and Ukrainian contemporary art in the context of the decolonization movement, as well as to the works presented as part of the Future Generation Art Prize 2024 exhibition.
About the lecturer: Yevheniia Butsykina is a cultural critic, art critic, associate professor at the Department of Ethics, Aesthetics and Cultural Studies at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, member of the Research Platform of the PinchukArtCentre.
