On Wednesday, November 13, at 18:30, we invite you to attend a lecture by Svitlana Abalova “Transformation of pain: psychology and art in the experience of loss” as part of the public program for the exhibition of the nominees for the Future Generation Art Prize 2024.

In their projects, the Future Generation Art Prize 2024 shortlisted artists address the themes of loss, grief, and traumatic experience. In particular, Buhlebezwe Siwani explores rituals that help to accept grief, Tara Abdullah turns to Kurdish wailing as a symbol of resilience, Sandra Mujinga reflects the complexity of recurrent grief, and Marie-Claire Messouma Manlanbien and Castiel Vitorino Brasileiro create installations that address the issue of healing.
During Svitlana Abalova's lecture “Transformation of pain: psychology and art in the experience of loss” we will consider ● the importance of rituals and traditions in the experience of grieving in the context of different cultural characteristics, as a realization of the tangibility of the sacredness of death;● the theme of loss that permeates our lives, as well as the importance of understanding the natural experience of loss, the grieving process and its stages;● an example of a complicated experience of loss through the work of Buhlebezwe Siwani.
Svitlana Abalova is a psychologist and psychotherapist, member of the Ukrainian Association of Psychologists, since 2014 she has been working within the Family Circle project on bereavement work with those killed during the Revolution of Dignity and the military. She leads psychological groups and seminars.
