Illia Levchenko

On Wednesday, November 27, at 18:30, we invite you to attend a lecture by Illia Levchenko “What does “to know” mean? Epistemic disobedience and the power of knowledge” as part of the public program for the exhibition of the nominees for the Future Generation Art Prize 2024.
The event will take place on the 4th floor of the PinchukArtCentre in the exhibition space (room with Veronika Hapchenko's artwork). Participation is free with prior registration: https://forms.gle/zZJ5dWYJphnwqyz36  Some of the projects shortlisted for the Future Generation Art Prize 2024 exhibition explore the decolonization of knowledge. In particular, Nolan Oswald Dennis studies decolonial politics and processes of knowledge creation, and Zhang Xu Zhan reflects on the dialogue between local and global cultures, focusing on the continuous exchange of knowledge.
● Knowledge is light, the ability to see, to grasp, and to embrace with power. Ultimately, it is power and authority. Decoloniality involves reconsidering how, by whom, and from where this knowledge is produced and structured, and paying attention to the connection between this knowledge and power politics - capture, subjugation, wars, extermination, etc. ● During the lecture, we will look at how the colonial power matrix and the production of knowledge are connected. ● Referring to the concept of “epistemic disobedience,” we will consider approaches to breaking this power matrix by reconsidering what knowledge is and what “to know” means.● If knowledge is a metaphorical and physical force, is epistemology possible within the framework of decolonial optics?
