Lecture by Pascal Gielen "Ambiguity and the Politics of Trust"

During the lecture, professor of sociology Pascal Gielen ● will reveal the political nature of art from a historical perspective, from Nazi propaganda to activist art, and explore the role of Zhanna Kadyrova's practice in the tradition and dealing with it for the (near) future;● will consider the exhibition "Flying Trajectories" in a broader socio-political context and reveal the relationship between aesthetics, politics and social trust; ● will propose to think about political systems and societies in terms of the politics of ambiguity and trust; discuss how recognition of universal needs and shared weaknesses can become a starting point to find again trust in ourselves, our neighbors and our societies. Pascal Gielen — is a writer and full professor of sociology of culture and politics at the Antwerp Research Institute for the Arts (Antwerp University - Belgium) where he leads the Culture Commons Quest Office (CCQO). Gielen is editor of the international book series Antennae - Arts in Society (Valiz). In 2016 he became laureate of the Odysseus grant for excellent international scientific research of the Fund for Scientific Research Flanders in Belgium. Gielen has published many books which are translated in Chinese, English, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Ukrainian, etc. His research focuses on creative labor, the common, urban and cultural politics.
